WITN7 – Kinston Indians Games Numbered

The Kinston Indians are now down to their final 10 games at historic Grainger Stadium.

The Indians were sold in December and are moving to Zebulon in Wake County when this season ends. Grainger Stadium has been home to minor league baseball in Kinston since 1949.

Kinston mayor, B.J. Murphy says losing the team will mean the city loses $30,000 in revenue, not including impact to surrounding businesses. Mayor Murphy says if any announcement on a future team is pending, it would not happen until after the season. He also added that even if a team doesn’t come in time for the 2012 season, he’s “optimistic professional baseball will be played again in Kinston.”

The Indians are home Monday through Wednesday before another road trip. Their final homestand runs August 26 through September 2.
