WITN: Kinston’s Mayor Says Crews Will Work To Restore Power Tonight

Kinston Mayor BJ Murphy says power crews will work for a few hours tonight to restore power. Murphy says about 12,000 people in Kinston do not have power. Crews will work until 10 p.m. tonight and then start back up early in the morning.

Mayor Murphy says he has driven around Kinston to look at damage. He says several streets are closed due to flooding and low-hanging powerlines. He says he was surprised to see so many people out walking, despite those dangers.

Mayor Murphy says it seems like the wind has downed just a little bit, as of 5 p.m. Thursday.

Murphy asked Kinston residents to be patient as crews work to restore power and clear the streets of debris.
