In an effort to assist Kinston’s disabled residents, Mayor B.J. Murphy is working with local disabled citizens and those who advocate for them to resurrect a mayor’s commission on people with disabilities.
“This committee used to be a strong voice and there continues to be issues and concerns within the community affecting citizens with disabilities,” Murphy wrote in an open letter asking people to attend a brainstorming session that took place at City Hall on Friday.
About 20 people attended the meeting, including Kinston-area residents who live with disabilities and those who work on behalf of residents who live with physical and mental disabilities.
