Gov. Bev Perdue’s commitment to education and economic growth in her State of the State address has resonated among local leaders in Kinston and Lenoir County.
Mayor B.J. Murphy was glad to hear of the corporate tax cut.
“Lowering the corporate tax rate could help us with recruiting industry, which will help our local coffers through sales tax, population growth,” he said.
Murphy had also wanted to hear from Perdue about potential changes to the Powell Bill funding formula, which determines how much money goes to municipalities for street repairs — Kinston’s annual allocation has decreased by more than $200,000 in the past eight years.
