KFP: City, school honor Hatcher for baseball achievements, hard work

[Chris] Hatcher, a former Vikings baseball standout who reached the major leagues as a catcher with the Florida Marlins in September, was honored for his achievements on and off the diamond Tuesday night during a ceremony at halftime of the school’s boys’ basketball game against Greensboro Dudley.

Kinston Mayor B.J. Murphy read a proclamation deeming Dec. 21 as “Chris Hatcher Day,” and the catcher-turned-pitcher was presented with a sign displaying his name, jersey number, years attended at Kinston High, the Kinston High logo and those of the Marlins and UNC Wilmington, which is where Hatcher played his college ball.
