Kinston Mayor B.J. Murphy says while the Indians are leaving in a year another professional team will likely move in soon enough to have professional baseball back in 2012. This week the Indians announced a sale and move to Zebulon after next season. Mayor Murphy says this Historic Grainger Stadium offers a potential new team an excellent place to play and should attract a new team. He said, “We’ve got a year to work on building a good network, developing relationships, recruiting some other franchise teams. We’ve got a year to work on it and I think that gives us a great head start.”
Nine different professional farm teams have played in Kinston since Grainger Stadium opened in 1949.
